Any GPS can plot a route through the Western Cape. Ours comes from years of riding roads like Tradouw Pass and the Outeniqua ourselves — the wine farm with a gate you need to know to knock on, the fisherman who'll teach you to cook your catch instead of just selling it to you. Cape Grand isn't a checklist of famous sights. It's the Cape as the people who live there actually experience it.
Departures are kept intentionally small — small enough that your guide knows your name and your riding style by day two, and small enough that the farms, lodges and local hosts along the way welcome you as guests rather than a tour bus passing through. Expect working farms where breakfast comes from the garden, boutique lodges in Montagu and Barrydale with more history than rooms, and evenings that start with a braai and end around a fire, swapping stories with people who actually live in the places you rode through that day. This isn't a chain hotel with a view. It's part of the expedition. Travelling as a group of friends or a company incentive? We can build this same route as a private expedition just for you.

Do I need previous adventure riding experience?
No off-road experience is required — Cape Grand is ridden entirely on tar. Any rider comfortable on a large adventure motorcycle at a relaxed touring pace will feel at home.
What are the road surfaces like?
100% tar, from coastal drives to mountain passes. There isn't a single kilometre of gravel on this route.
What motorcycle licence do I need?
A valid motorcycle licence is required. International riders should also carry an International Driving Permit — let us know your country of origin and we'll confirm exactly what you need.
Can I bring my own motorcycle?
Pricing includes a premium rental motorcycle matched to your riding style. If you'd prefer to bring your own, get in touch — we can usually accommodate it.

When's the best time of year to ride Cape Grand?
October to April, when the Western Cape sees the least rain and the longest daylight hours. We can advise on the best window for your dates.
What's the weather like?
Warm, dry summers along the coast and inland; mountain passes can be cooler and windier, so layers are worth packing regardless of season.
How much luggage can I bring?
Pack light — soft luggage only, one bag per rider, transported by the support vehicle so your bike stays unloaded for the ride.
Can I bring a pillion passenger?
Yes. Select the Pillion option when booking — your accommodation is then based on a private room shared exclusively between you and your pillion.
How many riders join each departure?
